Trader Joe’s just launched vegan pork rinds and enchilada casseroles | VegNews
Grocery chain Trader Joe’s recently added vegan pork rinds to their huge selection of plant-based snacks. The new Spicy Pork Free Rinds are made from a blend of pea protein, rice flour and pea flour seasoned with garlic, onion, salt, paprika, cayenne pepper and a pinch of habanero pepper for extra heat. Trader Joe’s new vegan pork rinds have the crunch and flavor of traditional crackers, but without fried pork skin. The new vegan pork rinds are also gluten-free and sell for $ 2.99 per 3.5-ounce bag at Trader Joe’s stores nationwide.
“Whether you know them as cracklins, snack foods, or maybe even chicharrones, pork rinds are a very popular snack. So popular, in fact, that we saw no reason why people who prefer plant-based products should not participate, ”described Trader Joe’s The New Snack. “Some people have claimed that it is not possible to perfect a ‘pork rind without pork’, especially if we plan to keep the price low. ‘When pigs fly!’ they said. But there you go, Trader Joe’s Spicy Plant-Based No Pork Crusts are just as crisp, crunchy, salty and satisfying as the real deal.
New vegan meals at Trader Joe’s
From chilled vegan mac and cheese to ready-to-eat pozole, quick vegan meal options are becoming easier to find at Trader Joe’s. In addition to vegan pork rinds, Trader Joe’s also just launched a vegan enchilada casserole that features corn tortillas topped with red chili sauce, seasoned pinto beans, roasted veggies and topped with a blend of vegan mozzarella and of cheddar cheese shavings.
This follows the launch of Vegan Pasta Bolognese earlier this year, a frozen meal that features the same deep flavors of meat-based bolognese sauce but made with meatless sauce and mushrooms over lentil-based pasta. “We are fortunate to live in an era of pronounced plant protein proliferation,” describes Trader Joe’s meal. “Today, even dishes that are more or less defined by their meat are available in vegan form, without sacrificing any of their characteristic texture or savory flavor.” Trader Joe’s also launched a vegan bolognese pasta sauce in stores in March for customers looking to make their own pasta creations from scratch.
Trader Joe plans to add more vegan products
It’s no coincidence that new vegan items keep popping up on Trader Joe’s shelves, as the grocery chain is actively looking to expand its herbal offerings to meet demand. Earlier this year, executives at Trader Joe announced that a plethora of vegan options were being developed across the popular grocery chain. In addition to the new frozen vegan dishes, the store recently added Spicy Porkless Snack Rinds (a vegan version of pork rinds); two vegan dips (tzatziki and caramelized onion); its own line of vegan cheeses; and much more.
For dessert, Trader Joe’s now offers a vegan milk chocolate bar made with Trader Joe’s almond drink, dairy-free chocolate and chocolate oat bars (think vegan fudgesicles) and vegan vanilla cupcakes. topped with rainbow nuggets (at select stores in California).
Inspired by the success of its seasonal (and totally vegan) Bon Bons Non Dairy Mint & Chip Bon Bons, Trader Joe’s recently added a second flavor of the vegan treat. The new Bon Bons Vegan Cookies & Creme Vanilla Bean feature a crunchy chocolate shell filled with coconut milk ice cream that is sprinkled with chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies. According to insiders, the grocery chain is working on a vegan version of its miniature Hold the Cone ice cream cones that contain ice cream in a chocolate-coated waffle cone.
To offer vegan options in each category, Trader Joe’s development team is also working to bring plant-based seafood to their store shelves.
