Ocean City, New Jersey gears up for Memorial Day weekend
Adam Joseph has what’s going on this weekend down At The Shore in Ocean City.
– Maybe let’s talk about Memorial Day weekend and hopefully a little chill out here. It almost happens, and for many families, it means it’s time to get ashore. This is exactly where meteorologist Adam Joseph is at the moment. He lives in Ocean City with a preview of the big events happening this weekend. And nice to see you back there, Adam.
ADAM JOSEPH: It’s so good to be here. You know, Charie, it was really a surreal moment driving here earlier this afternoon. I haven’t done this for work for almost two years. It was August 2019. And it’s nice to see people on the boardwalk here. You have a beautiful sunny day. You even have people. Some of them said, I took the day off today, because it’s really nice – sitting on the sand here, enjoying. And yes, events return to the shore as well.
Things, of course, are going to be a little different than they were before the pandemic, and some of the videos you’re going to see – again, you have to remember that this was a file video. of 2019. But a lot of videos these events are being restructured, so they’ll be safe over the next few weekends. And in fact, let’s take a look at our very first what’s happening on the shore this weekend.
It’s not Memorial Day weekend without the Wildwoods International Kite Festival. This four-day high flying show at Rio Grande Ave Beach begins Friday at noon with the media kite show. Then at 9:00 p.m., an illuminated night kite flies off. Saturday and Sunday all day long you can expect large inflatable kites in the sky – sport kites, team flights and auctions. On Monday, the World Indoor Kite Competition will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the East Hall Convention Center. All activities are free.
If you’re on Long Beach Island this weekend, stroll among nearly 70 vendors at the Viking Village Arts and Crafts Show from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and in Barnegat Light Bay. Browse fine art, photography, ceramics, wood crafts, clothing, jewelry, accessories and more. Plenty of parking and free to check for rain or shine.
Hit the sand in Ocean City on Saturday starting at 7:00 am for the Memorial Beach Challenge. Things might look a little different from this 2019 video file, but you can still participate or watch a Navy SEAL approved obstacle course. 100% of proceeds go to 31 Heroes, an organization that creates financial support and opportunities for military families. There will also be a fun run for the kids and a memorial service.
Be safe and have a great time this weekend on the shore.
And a lot of people have jumped over to shore before I think the weather is heading south. We will discuss this in the forecast. How are you?
So we’ll head to the fudge kitchen. I’ll make some fudge. I have to repay. They gave it to me for free. We’ll see you coming in a moment. It’s the master right there.
ADAM JOSEPH: Johnny.
– It’s a popular place too, Adam, so don’t forget to remember your colleagues here in Philadelphia.
ADAM JOSEPH: Of course. Of course.
– All right, see you later. Thank you.
