National Kite Boarding Championship 2022: location, dates, full list of participating snowboarders
YAI which is the National Federation for the Sport of Sailing in India and the Premier Kite Boarding Association, the national body representing Kite Boarding in India, the Yachting Association of India (YAI) has announced.
Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank is the title sponsor of the event. The three-day event will be hosted by Aqua Outback and Tuticorin, and will be organized by Tamil Nadu Sailing Association and Chennai Sailing Academy. Tamil Nadu Tourism has joined us as a partner of this regatta.
Kite Boarding’s premier event will see all of the top athletes compete for the highest honors across the country. The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. Kite Boarding will make its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ahead of the announcement, YAI Chairman Admiral Karambir Singh said: “Tuticorin has one of the windiest coasts in India, making it an ideal arena for practicing water sports based on the wind and bring together some of the best athletes in the country to train and compete.”
The regatta will see top kitesurfers like defending champion Arjun Motha, Varun Narayan, Dylan Fernandez, Philipe Darnell and Jehan Driver in the men’s section and Keona Ranjini and Katya Sani in the women’s category. “It will be an exciting competition and I will do my best to defend the national title,” defending champion Arjun Motha said.
Aqua Outback, Tuticorin has hosted several water sports events including the first Indian Kitesurfing and Sea Kayaking Championship and is currently hosting the 3rd National Kitesurfing Championship.
“Conditions at Tuticorin are ideal for regatta and Aqua Outback is an ideal arena for holding water sports competitions and is safe and conducive to conduct these sports with national and international racing officials,” said Keona Ranjini, the best female kitesurfer.
The event will see the presence of P Geetha Jeevan, Honorable Minister of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment of Tamil Nadu, Anitha R Radhakrishnan, Honorable Minister of Fisheries, Fishermen Welfare and Animal Husbandry of Tamil Nadu, GV Markandayan, MLA Vilathikulam, Dr K Senthil Raj IAS, District Collector, Tuticorin, NP Jegan, Mayor, Tuticorin City Municipal Corporation, Tuticorin, Dr L BalajiSaravanan IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin, D Inbamani, Director General, Recovery & Marketing, Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank and Dr Sugumar, Vice Chancellor, TNJFU Dr Jayalalitha Fisheries University.
