Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty released audiobooks for students in grades 10 and 12 at a ceremony organized by the state education department. The audio books will include review portions to help students prepare for their board exams.
This initiative is a continuation of the First Bell digital courses which are broadcast through the “Kite Vicers” channel in Kerala. The audiobooks have been developed and made available on the First Bell portal – firstbell.kite.kerala.gov.in – by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE).
The books have been designed in such a way that the review of all Class 10 subjects can be completed in 10 hours, said K Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE. The audiobooks will also be available to students for download via QR codes.
Class 12 audiobooks, averaging 1.5 hours per subject, will be available from February 21, 2022. All audiobook review courses, made available on the First Bell portal, will be heard from enjoyable way and will be easily downloadable and shareable in MP3 format,
KITE has given instructions to extend the high-speed Internet service provided to schools as part of its Hi-Tech school project for downloading audio books for pupils in need. The free software based screen reader software “ORCA” has been installed on all laptops provided by KITE to the schools and additionally all visually impaired teachers have received specialized ICT training by KITE.

Audiobooks will be extremely helpful, especially for visually impaired students. “Children with low vision use the audio lessons to some extent. However, audiobooks, which are entirely in voice format, would be very beneficial for visually impaired students,” said KITE CEO.
According to official sources, First Bell has completed telecasting over 10,000 classes to date, including Kannada and Tamil Psychic classes as well as General Psychic and English classes.
