EDPR celebrates World Wind Day by raising awareness of the importance of this renewable energy source

MondayJune 20, 2022

Seeking to protect the environment and work towards a more sustainable world, this year EDPR has extended World Wind Day celebrations to a week with various events in the markets where it operates.

June 15 is World Wind Day, a celebration launched in 2007 by the European Wind Energy Association to highlight the value of this important source of renewable energy and raise awareness in society that a more sustainable world is possible.

This year EDPR has organized open days on some of its wind farmsinviting residents of neighboring towns to experience a fun and educational day in some of the countries where the company is present: Spain, Poland, Greece, France and the United States.

Residents of local communities, especially children, had the chance to see first-hand the relevance and benefits of wind energy, while enjoying different activities:

Spain

On the morning of June 16, EDPR organized an open day in Spain at the Piedrahita – El Castillo wind complex, in association with its local partner, Grupo Térvalis. More than a hundred schoolchildren from the neighboring towns of Monreal del Campo, Oliete, Alacón and Muniesa participated along with their teachers. The day included several activities designed to show the benefits of wind energy and its relevance to the environment, people’s well-being and the sustainability of the planet. Among them, a puppet show, sports activities such as badminton or trampoline jumping and a drawing competition.

Greece

In Greece, the Livadi wind farm located in Malesina was the place chosen. More than 60 school children, NTUA University students and representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Energy were present to mark the date. The open day, organized by the EDPR in partnership with the Hellenic Wind Energy Scientific Association (ELETAEN), included fun and interactive wind-related activities such as creating paper wind turbines, deer flying and parachute games. In addition, the company’s engineers offered attendees the chance to learn interesting facts about the wind industry and how a wind turbine works.

Poland

The EDPR in Poland celebrated a new edition of the EDPR Wind Cup football tournament, as it had already done in the last edition of 2019. The event took place in the courtyard of a school in Iłża , involving children from 9 schools in the region. The participants received commemorative medals, diplomas and prizes. Representatives of EDPR and the Mayor of Iłża opened the tournament and participated in the event. In addition to the football tournament, there were many other activities: animations, football shows organized by “Iłżecka Football Academy” and a show of freestyle football tricks.

France

A group of EDPR France employees were responsible for giving lectures on wind and wind energy in France, using presentations, games and quizzes in various schools in the days leading up to Global Wind Day. On June 15, two open days were held at the Boqueho-Plouagat and Vaudrimesnil wind farms involving residents from near the communes.

United States

Across the Atlantic, EDPR North America celebrated its leadership position in wind energy in Northwest Indiana with a meal prepared by local chefs, fun family events, live music and gifts for all. An event that further strengthened the company’s ongoing relationship with the local communities that have supported these clean energy projects, where business success goes hand in hand with meeting the needs and well-being of society.

In short, through these initiatives, EDPR strengthens its relationship and commitment to local communities in the regions where it operates, while promoting the importance of wind and renewable energies with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint and to have a positive impact on the planet.
