Movie – Chandramukhi (2005)
The song, Annanoda pattu, was featured in Sivaji Productions’ Tamil psychological horror thriller Chandramukhi (2005) directed by P Vasu and produced by Ramkumar Ganesan. The film starred Rajnikanth, Prabhu, Jyotika, Nayantara, Vadivelu, KR Vijaya, Sheela, etc.
Dr Saravanan (Rajnikanth) is a psychiatrist and a good friend of Senthilnathan (Prabhu). Senthil’s father married Kasthuri (KR Vijaya) and his ties with his extended family have deteriorated. Kasthuri had suggested that Senthil would marry one of the daughters of the extended family and Senthil’s father’s cousin Akhilandeshwari (Sheela) is in preparation for the wedding. But, because Senthil married Ganga (Jyotika) and has a contract to build roads in their native village, Kathuri fears that Akhilandeshwari will kill Ganga, if they go to the village. Akhilandeshwari seems to be so dangerous.
Senthil says he bought the Vettaiyapuram mansion where the couple would live during the stay. Kasthuri reveals that there are several horror stories associated with the mansion. This is where Saravanan comes in. He promises that his best friend and his wife will not be hurt when they go to the village and begins his research on the mansion. After his research, he leaves for the village in order to appease those close to Senthil and to test the terrain for the safe stay of Senthil and Ganga, on an ox cart.
Upon arriving at the village, Saravanan is greeted by the family thinking that he is Senthil, although Saravanan tells them otherwise. Akhilandeshwari went to visit their family temple. In his absence, Saravanan visits Vettaiyapuram mansion with Senthil’s uncle, Murugeshan (Vadivelu). The mansion has not been maintained for a while. There is no light inside and sunlight does not penetrate inside. The place looks awful and Murugeshan is having a really bad time.
When they return, Akhilandeshwari returns and demands to know where Senthil is. She deduced that Saravanan is not the bridegroom from the fact that he came by oxcart and she believes that Senthil would not travel with the cheap vehicle. Senthil and Ganga arrive in a car at this time and announce that the couple are moving towards the Vettaiyapuram mansion. Akhilandeshwari insists that they all come with the couple to stay there because of the dangers lurking there. His hidden intentions are to witness the couple’s death in the mansion.
The family decides to visit their family temple. Saravanan insists that they travel in oxen. Along the way, they meet the keeper of Vettaiyapuram (Vijayakumar) mansion. When another uncle Kandasamy (Nassar) from Senthil asks him about his presence there, the keeper replies that his granddaughter, Durga was flying kites with children. Saravanan and others stop there to join Durga.
Ever since Saravanan met Durga, he hasn’t stopped teasing her. The next morning, Durga is leading a music class when Saravanan, awakened from a deep sleep, disrupts the class. The next day, Saravanan sends the students to watch a movie in a cinema while Durga waits for them. His grandfather tells him not to attend classes while Saravanan is there. Despite his grandfather’s discouragement; she enters the mansion to confront her executioner.
Within, Saravanan has a galaxy of musical instruments easily preserved for her, including her harmonium. Durga refuses to use them and stammers that his harmonium has been tarnished by the touch of a non-musician like him, who knows nothing about music. Saravanan sings a song, with a folk touch, that says music is present in everything. Durga apologizes and leaves. Saravanan has to leave town because one of his patients is serious. Saravanan and Durga seem to have fallen in love with each other.
Once Saravanan is gone, a problem arises in Vettaiyapuram Mansion. Strange things start to happen involving Ganga and the people living in the mansion blame Durga. Fortunately, Saravanan returns and begins to make it clear that he had accepted Senthil and Ganga’s stay in the mansion only because he was assured of their safety.
Things go as far as Senthil’s coffee poisoning and other accidents. When a glass fish tank nearly kills Senthil and apparently Durga was responsible for it, Saravanan locks him in a room. An exorcist, Ramchandra Acharya (Avinash) is employed by Kandaswamy, who is vexed by Saravanan’s attitude and behavior.
Kandaswamy’s firstborn, Priya (Malavika) is in love with a dance teacher, Vishwanathan (Vineeth) and she brings him to live in the house opposite the Vettaiyapuram mansion. Kandaswamy’s family approach them for a marriage alliance with Priya, after Saravanan informs them of the love affair. On their engagement day, Saravanan, Senthil and others perform this song.

Video – Annanoda pattu
Cinematography is by Sekhar V Joseph. The dance choreography is by DKS Babu / BH Tarun Kumar / Raju Sundaram / Kala / Brinda.
The video opens with Nassar and Vinaya Prasad inviting Avinash for the engagement ceremony of their first daughter, played by Malavika. Avinash assures Nassar that the problems plaguing the residents of Vettaiyapuram Mansion would soon be resolved.
Sheela tells Nassar that she would not be coming for the engagement because of her ego issues with Rajnikanth. She is upset that Rajnikath informed them about Malavika’s love affair, first. Sonu Sood, who plays Sheela’s handyman, stands next to Sheela.
Nassar suggests that Vanaya Prasad leave the problem as it is for now. The celebrations begin with a brilliant display of firecrackers. A woman sings a folk tune in front of the camera.
The camera goes to the mandap where the decorations and the preliminary poojas take place with Malavika. Rajnikanth, Prabhu and other actors walk towards the camera, dressed in traditional white South Indian outfits.
Vadivelu is also present among the male actors of the group. Rajnikanth begins to sing and dance this song. All of the main characters except Vineeth, Malavika, Sheela, and Sonu Sood are seen dancing to the tune of the song. There are some costume changes.
Vineeth and Malavika sit on chairs on the podium and happily watch the show. Rajnikanth blesses Vineeth and Jyotika teases Malavika. Vineeth also joins in the dance. The steps are so simple that it does an injustice to the accomplished dancer of Bharatanatyam like Vineeth.
Rajnikanth takes a few steps at the head of a group of girls. Some girls with short dresses join in the dance. I wonder if this is necessary. Everything was fine when this shot was brought in.
Rajnikanth gives free philosophical advice to viewers. There is no connection between what is said in the song and these girls. Vineeth receives a call on her cell phone and leaves after informing Nassar.
The song continues. Jyotika watches Vineeth leave but continues to dance. Soon Rajnikanth realizes that Jyotika is also missing. The song ends here. He runs to the mansion in search of her and goes up to the terrace. The video ends there too.
KK, Chinnaponnu, Sujatha, Karthik and Aparna sang this song for male and female artists. Nassar, Vinaya Prasad, Avinash, Sheela, Sonu Sood, Rajnikanth, Prabhu, Jyotika, Vadivelu, Vineeth, Malavika and others are seen in the video.
It is a typical celebratory song, mainly praising Rajnikanth. The song and the artists are good. The video is watchable for the same.
