food distribution
Galt Joint Union Elementary School District Galt Grub Grab food distributions continue through March at Greer and Valley Oaks elementary schools. Shelf stable food boxes are donated by the Sacramento Food Bank and are free to Galt families. Distributions take place at the time of termination.
The Valley Oaks cast takes place on Thursdays, February 24, March 10, 24 and 31 at 21 C Street.
The Greer distribution takes place on Tuesdays, March 8, 22 and 29 at 248 West A Street.

Whist Card Party

The Society of Our Lady of Fatima of Thornton is hosting its annual Whist Card Party on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Thornton Community Hall. It will also sell Portuguese sweet bread at $10 a loaf and Portuguese donuts (filozes) at $12 a dozen after every Sunday mass. The cost to play is $5 per person. There will be many good prizes for players and refreshments will be served.

Cabbage dinner March 12
The Alta Mesa Gun Club invites everyone to get into the Irish spirit and join their annual Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner at the clubhouse on Saturday, March 12.
There will be several raffle prizes. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The club is located at 10100 Reigl Road in Wilton.
Dinner tickets can be purchased at the clubhouse Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 5-9 p.m.; or online with Google Pay at [email protected] Tickets are $25 per person, $12 for ages 12 and under.

The town of Galt will host a new Saturday market on the first Saturday of the month, from April to October. The event will take place on the Fourth Street Promenade and will last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors will be offering food, produce, fresh flowers, and arts and crafts.
The first Saturday market is scheduled for April 2. It will feature a school band at 11 a.m. and the city’s Touch-A-Truck event, which gives kids a chance to explore vehicles like fire trucks, tractors and police cars. For more information, visit bit.ly/SaturdayMarketGalt (case sensitive).

Kite Day Combo

The Galt Area Historical Society will host the 13th annual Galt Eggstravaganza and Kite Day on April 9. Kite Day and Eggstravaganza will be combined for the first time in an event filled with fun activities and over 70 vendors. The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at McFarland Living History Ranch, with an egg hunt on ranch grounds and kites provided by Old City Kites. Other attractions include food trucks, a pie contest hosted by Galt Sunrise Rotary, an egg drop from a Cosumnes Fire Department ladder truck, and activities hosted by Boy Scout Troop 1119.
McFarland Living History Ranch is located at 8899 Orr Road. The egg drop is open to 20 participants ages 12 or younger, and registration opens March 1. For more information or to register for the egg drop, visit www.galtegg.com.
