A Window to the Past – Maine Summer Auction and Independence Day Classic Car Show
The Summer in Maine Auction, the auction showcasing some of the best Maine has to offer, will open for auction on Saturday, June 25 at the South Portland Historical Society museum in Bug Light Park. Bids will be accepted daily until the auction closes on July 4.
We hope you will come and check out the great auction items that have been donated.
The summer auction in Maine became a signature fundraiser for the South Portland Historical Society; all items auctioned were donated by the service providers, allowing proceeds from the auction to go directly to benefit the historical society and its museum at Bug Light Park.
Living in Vacationland means we have great opportunities for fun things to do all around us. Anyone spending time here in Maine will be able to find great places to stay, cruises along the Maine coast, museums, outdoor activities and more at this auction.
You can take your family and friends to a Portland Sea Dogs game and enjoy a 22-person skybox (offered by Portland Tugboat). You can take a tour of the Eastern Cemetery with Spirits Alive, take a tour of the cellar at Victoria Mansion Tower (with Executive Director Tim Brosnihan as your personal guide), or enjoy island life for a day while you take a golf cart tour with Peaks Island Tours.
A sampling of other donors include a day boat rental at Port Harbor Marine, tickets to a show at the Maine State Music Theater, a cruise on the Songo Queen River, or sample great food at local spots like SoPo Seafood or South Portland House of Pizzas.
If you have friends or family coming to visit, seat them in style at the Courtyard by Marriott. There are auction items in all price ranges for the auction.
In addition to offering fun summer experiences, the auction also includes physical items you can bid on, such as a high-bar or low-bar bike (donated by Lighthouse Bikes) or a gift bag of donated items by Allagash Brewing Company.
Now that donors have generously donated these great items to auction, fundraising is now in the hands of fans. In addition to in-person bidding, bids will also be accepted via email. To view the list of auction items and submit an email bid, visit the South Portland Historical Society Facebook page for details.
We are excited for the upcoming Independence Day Classic Car Show, presented by Yankee Ford.
Vintage and classic cars will be on display at Bug Light Park, on the grounds in front of the museum, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food will be available from food trucks. The Nor’Easters Kite Club will be holding their own patriotic flight during the car show, so expect to see some great kites (kites and kite wands for young children are always available at sale in the museum’s gift shop).
We will have the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence from the porch of the museum at noon.
The Summer in Maine auction will also be set up during the auto show; the auction will close shortly after the reading of the Declaration of Independence (estimated closing time around 12:30 p.m.). You do not need to be present to be the winning bidder, but all winning bidders who are present may pay and collect their items at the show.
Our thanks to the auto show’s title sponsor, Yankee Ford. We would also like to thank our additional sponsors, Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution and Renewal by Andersen. Our show sponsors help us keep the museum open to the public with free admission throughout the season.
Bid high and support the historical society and its museum at Bug Light Park. For more information, visit the South Portland Historical Society Facebook page or call or email us at 767-7299 or [email protected]
Our thanks to the community for your continued support.
