We survived January and the first cold snap of the year, so to kick off the new month, here are 22 events to put on your calendar.

Editor’s note: Some of these events require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. Be sure to check the requirements before you show up.

hippie sabotage
Electronic dance music duo are on tour Rooms Of Hallucination with a stop in Madison. February 2, 8-10 p.m., La Sylvee

Dancing with the Stars Live Tour
Dancing with the Stars comes to Madison with a live tour featuring dancers from the show. Expect to see classic dances like cha cha, foxtrot, salsa and tango. February 3, 8 p.m., Overture Center for the Arts

Children in the rotunda
The free, family-friendly performance series “Kids in the Rotunda” returns in person to the Overture Center in February. The February 5 event is virtual with Black Star Drumline. Then the shows on February 12, 19 and 26 will be in person. February 5, 12, 19, 26, Overture Center for the Arts

Festival of Frozen Assets
Enjoy events all weekend including Ice Skydiving with Seven Hills Skydiving, Inflatable Slapshot Courtesy of Madison Capitols Hockey Team, and Science on Ice with Team Saturday Science. There is also a 5k run or walk on a frozen Lake Mendota. The course starts and ends at The Edgewater. The festival has raised over $130,000 for Madison Lakes in 2020. February 5, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., February 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., The Edgewater

“Stalluna” by the Children’s Theater of Madison
Madison’s Children’s Theater presents a version of a beloved children’s story adapted for the stage. “Stellaluna” features a deaf narrator with puppets, music, and dance. They will also have sensory kits available. February 5-6, 12-13, The Playhouse at Overture Center

UW Arboretum Ecological Restoration Task Forces
Volunteer for restoration activities with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and learn more about grasslands and savannas. Events occur on the first four Saturday mornings of each month. Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

The Wisconsin Union Winter Carnival holds many different events over the course of a few days. Check out some of the events below. February 7-12, Memorial Union

  • Mini Golf on Ice: The Hoofer Sailing Club creates a mini-golf course and chipping area on Lake Mendota. February 8, 2-5 p.m.
  • Fishing Derby: For the first time, an educational Ice Fishing Derby will take place at the Winter Carnival. February 10, 12 p.m.-6 p.m.
  • Statue of Liberty: The Pail and Shovel Party first put the The Statue of Liberty on Lake Mendota as a prank in 1979. To remember the occasion, the Wisconsin Union team now poses an inflatable version on the lake. February 11-12
  • Ice Climbing Exhibition: Learn the basics of ice climbing with the Hoofer Mountaineering Club. February 11, 5-7 p.m.
  • Family fun in the park of old: People of all ages are invited to participate in family winter activities. Dance at an outdoor party with DJ Mike Carlson or stay warm with winter-themed storytelling, hands-on arts, hot chocolate and apple cider. Feb. 12, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Let’s fly a kite: Fly a kite over Lake Mendota, or before you fly, build your own at Wheelhouse Studios. February 12, 1-3 p.m.
  • Railway blockage: Come watch or race against the best snowboarders and freestyle skiers in the Midwest in the latest Winter Carnival event. February 12, 3-9 p.m.

SmartLess Tour Live with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett
This trio of actors and podcasters takes their show to Madison. The show consists of an interview with a mystery guest. Not only will it be a surprise to the audience, but only one of the three hosts knows who it will be. As soon as it is revealed, the other two hosts will chat with the guest. February 9, 8-10 p.m., Orpheum Theater

Pop-ups in the park
Educational staff at the Lussier Family Heritage Center organize snowshoe walks and owls to encourage people to enjoy Dane County parks. Events are free, but there are snowshoes that are available for a $2 rental fee. February 9, 11, 23, 25

Brentano String Quartet
As part of the David and Kato Perlman Chamber Music Series, expect an excellent performance from the Brentano String Quartet, who have been together for 30 years as a quartet. February 10, 7:30 p.m., Wisconsin Union Theater

Valentine’s Day at Fitchburg Farms
There will be over 40 local makers selling their wares at Fitchburg Farms – perfect if you need a last minute gift. In addition to shopping, there will be live music, brunch, and a few other special events throughout the weekend. February 11-13, 1839 County Road MM, Fitchburg

Madison Makers Valentine’s Market and Pub Crawl
Madison Makers Market is back in February with a Valentine’s Day-themed market and pub crawl. Over 80 local vendors have registered to be part of the event. February 12, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Giant Jones Brewing, Old Sugar Distillery, Vintage Brewing Capitol East, The Sylvee

Arboretum Full Moon Night Walk
Naturalists lead a nocturnal walk in the Arboretum. Bundle up and explore the area by moonlight. February 12, 6:30-8 p.m., UW Arboretum

Careful clay
R&B and Soul artist Cautious Clay from Cleveland is visiting Madison as part of his world tour. Deadpan Love’s new deluxe album comes out the day before his show. February 12, 8-10 p.m., The Majestic Theater

Winter Adventures at Pope Farm
Grab your snowshoes, cross-country skis or hiking boots to explore Pope Farm Conservancy with the whole family. February 13, 1-2 p.m., 7440 Old Sauk Road, Verona

Bierock Puppy Bowl Watch Party
Bierock is hosting a Puppy Bowl Watch Party with all-day food and drink specials for the fourth year in a row. Start your day watching the adorable pups, then catch the Super Bowl afterwards. Ten percent of sales will be donated to the Dane County Humane Society. February 13, 1 p.m., Bierock

Beyond the Score
With only one performance, Beyond the Score is a must. This performance is a two-part production with guest appearances from American Players Theater. February 13, 2:30-4:30 p.m., Overture Center for the Arts

Campus Hippopotamus
The indie rock band from Minnesota makes its first stop in Madison on its tour that will cover six countries. February 17, 8-10 p.m., La Sylvee

Cupid’s Undie Run
Thousands of runners in cities across the United States will come together to jog a mile. The Brink Lounge is hosting the event, in support of those affected by NF, a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. February 19, noon-4 p.m., The Brink Lounge

Always Woozy
Pop artist Still Woozy is taking part in his “If This Isn’t Nice” tour with Wallice which will span four months and seven countries. February 20, 8-10 p.m., La Sylvee

hair spray
Overture Center presents its latest Broadway Across America show, “Hairspray” in February. The show tells the story of 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad in 1960s Baltimore. February 22-27, Overture Center for the Arts

Dropkick Murphys
If you need a little Celtic punk in your life this February, look no further. Dropkick Murphys are on tour, with a stop at The Sylvee. February 27, 7-9 p.m., La Sylvee
