2021 Global Green Economy Summit ends with 7th Dubai Declaration
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 11, 2021 / CNW / – Under the theme “Galvanizing action for a sustainable recovery”, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organization organized 7e World Green Economy Summit (WGES). It brought together key speakers and officials and focused on four themes: youth; Innovation and smart technologies; Green economy and policies; and Green Finance.
The WGES concluded with HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Energy Council of Dubai, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA and Chairman of WGES, announcing the Dubai Declaration 2021.
We recognize that climate change is an urgent global threat with impacts that go beyond the environmental agenda to include economic, social and environmental challenges.
We recognize that a sustainable and green recovery should guide our efforts to rebuild the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to limit the temperature rise to well below 2 ° C by targeting 1.5 ° C. above pre-industrial levels, in accordance with the Paris Agreement “COP21“.
We encourage inclusive partnerships in which governments, businesses and civil society participate in collective action, for current and future generations.
We encourage increased support for the low carbon transition by developing a strategy and roadmap for green hydrogen in Dubai.
The World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) will continue to be the main platform and partnership facilitator for international cooperation, knowledge sharing and technology transfer between developed and developing countries, in taking into account the special needs and circumstances of least developed countries and small island developing States. , aimed at promoting the design and implementation of green economy policies at national, regional and global levels.
We look forward to meeting commitments to the goals of the Paris Agreement, while giving our full support to the success of the UNFCCC. COP26 stand in November 2021 in Scotland.
We will coordinate and align the regional response to climate change for effective implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and other national climate strategies and policies through the UNFCCC WGEO Regional Collaborating Center in Dubai, during MENA Climate Week 2022. This will coincide with the upcoming Global Green Economy Summit at Expo 2020 Dubai in March 2022.
