2021 CenterPoint Energy Red River Balloon Rally presented by the Louisiana Tourist Board travels to the Brookshire Grocery Arena
The Shreveport-Bossier Athletic Commission today announced that the 2021 CenterPoint Energy Red River Balloon Rally presented by the Louisiana Board of Tourism, scheduled for June 11-12, will now take place at the Brookshire Grocery Arena located at 2000 Brookshire Arena Drive, Bossier City, LA 71112.
Due to the unprecedented rain that Shreveport-Bossier City has received in recent months on Monday, June 7, the LSUS administration has made the decision not to host the festival due to overly saturated grounds. The Shreveport-Bossier Athletic Commission is delighted to partner with the Brookshire Grocery Arena to host this incredible event.
“There are so many challenges in hosting an event of this magnitude,” said Kelly Wells, Executive Director of the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission. “With the many potential dangers of hot air balloons, all the required documents and permits, hot air balloon festivals require a lot of planning. The festival will look different due to the change of venue, but as with everything this year we will continue with it and make sure it is a good time for all festival goers. We are so lucky to have such a great relationship with the town of Bossier, the Brookshire Grocery Arena and all the amazing sponsors that will make this event possible. “
Given the sudden change of location, an outdoor alcohol permit for Bossier parish could not be approved in time. There will be Coca-Cola products for consumption. A full list of food vendors can be found here: https://redriverballoonrally.com/food-vendors/. This new location will allow the festival to be much more accessible to strollers and people with reduced mobility. Temperatures should be in the 90s and the pavement will be hot. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately, wear sunscreen, and drink plenty of water.
A map of the new layout and parking is available at https://rediverballoonrally.com/festival-map/ and all scheduled events will remain the same. The festival will feature nighttime balloon lights; live Christian, country and rock bands; fireworks; captive balloon rides; children’s entertainment area; professional exhibition of kites; food and craft vendors, including Bossier City Farmer’s Market, and more! Friday is Faith and Family Night presented by First Bossier with performances by Danny Gokey, First Bossier Worship Band and YALA. Saturday is Louisiana Saturday Night with music lineup that includes an ’80s musical experience with The Molly Ringwalds, After Midtown, and Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs. This year four (4) specially shaped balloons will help light up the sky with Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Bullwinkle, Raccoon and Cowboy.
The US Team Nationals balloon competition will not be affected by this change. To learn more about the competition that flies over Shreveport-Bossier City June 9-13, please visit the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/redriverballoonrally.
This year, in addition to hot air balloons, there will be a professional kite exhibition featuring sports competition kites and inflatable LED kites. Kites of all sizes and shapes will fly through the balloon glow field from 5 p.m.
