1 Meyiwa, accused of murder, contacted Kelly Khumalo: leak of NPA document

JOHANNESBURG – An internal document released by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to journalists who were in court on Tuesday revealed details of the five suspects arrested for the murder of a footballer Senzo Meyiwa.
Meyiwa was murdered in 2014 on his way to the home of his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus.
The document citing that Khumalo was posted on the police press group, but a request was subsequently made to remove it. In the indictment released by the NPA, Khumalo’s name appeared in the death of the father of his child.
Some of the details contained in the investigative document included indications from the accused, which correspond to the facts of the case.
Additionally, the NPA wanted an explanation as to why EMPD officials transported the five accused suspects for confessions and not the South African Police Service.
The indictment also reveals that accused number five communicated by telephone with Khumalo and that it was mentioned that there was a lender who gave money to Khumalo to “ostensibly pay killers to pledges and that this lender was harassing her for the repayment of this loan ”.

The Meyiwa murder case has been postponed to November 27.
Talk to Eyewitness News, Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso, said he was happy that they finally came to something with the case: “We are happy that the case is now in court – it means that the work is finally starting but that ‘There is still a lot to do. If they were sent, we want to know why.
THE SUSPECTS ARE SAYING INNOCENT
The five men arrested in connection with Meyiwa’s murder earlier Tuesday refused to go up to the pier.
They were led into the courtroom but refused to comply, arguing that they had not committed the crime and that the police were using them to protect those really responsible for Meyiwa’s murder.

One of the suspects claimed to have been arrested in August while another told the court he wanted the media in attendance to capture what he called the thug in the murder case.
Defendant number four said he did not see the need for a lawyer because he had not killed the captain of the Bafana.
The suspects were named Muzikawukhulelwa S’themba Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphosa, Sifokuhle Nkani Ntuli.
They were formally charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated theft.
The state also wants to acquire the telephone records of all the defendants before and after the murder.
Police said on Monday they had finally made a breakthrough six years after the footballer was shot dead in Vosloorus.
